Brisbanites have always been proud of their culture scene. And for good reason, too, considering the many great venues for art, music, literature, and theatre in the area. In the case of live music, Brisbane has its own fine gems.
From the recommendations of the different lifestyle magazines Australia produces, here are the top venues to go to for live music:
The Tivoli is one of the most prominent music venues around Brisbane. It features a spacious venue where the audience can feel close to the performer. It’s no stranger to both local and international acts, as it has been a gig venue for artists, such as Tegan and Sara, Bon Iver, and Jason Mraz. Just recently, the bar served as the venue for Bob Dylan’s first club show in Brisbane.
The Tivoli has a lot of interesting gigs lined up for the rest of the year up to 2015. Notable mentions include upcoming performances from Grammy-winning artist Sarah McLachlan, Jimmy Eat World, and pop punk sensations Yellow card and Mayday Parade.
For a dose of indie music, The Zoo is the perfect venue for that. It is a vibrant, artsy nightclub that caters to the alternative music-loving audience. The nightclub has been around for 22 years now, and it continues to be one of the most attractive places for a laid back night out with friends. The performances here are mostly from indie artists outside the hard-core spectrum, such as Electric Suede, Montaigne, Inigo, Ayla, and San Cisco.
The government-owned Riverstage is also one of Brisbane’s finest live music venues. Now, it is an outdoor entertainment venue, but it is the destination of performances from some of the big names in the music industry. In January 2015, Nelly, B.o.B., and Lupe Fiasco will hold a concert there. The Kooks will also hold a show on the same month. Ed Sheeran will also have a three-day concert there in March.
Brisbane Entertainment Centre
For big concerts, the Brisbane Entertainment Centre is the ideal destination. The Rolling Stones held a concert there in November 2014. Come 2015, the area will still have some amazing concerts from artists like Sting and Paul Simon, The Script, Nickelback, and Spandau Ballet.
No night is too dull for a good dose of live music. Visit these venues for electrifying performances from up-and-coming bands to some of the biggest names in the local and international music scene.
